| Last Year’s Real National Championship Game: Almost Posted: 24 Aug 2009 03:16 PM PDT Last Year’s Real National Championship Game: Almost Now if you know me, you know I’m a fan of comic books. And an integral aspect of the comic book experience is the premise of the what if. And before I bore you with tales of what if the Martian Manhunter was a White Martian or what if the Punisher was black, I will just tell you that it’s something that easily translates to sports. So when Team Speed Kills reported on the news of an abortive attempt at a game between Florida and Utah, suffice it to say that I was intrigued. For you see, the cupcake game has permeated college football and I live in the two worlds where it’s at its most offensive. But then again? You look at the article, and you see that there’s a lot that goes into making a game. First of all, it takes a lot to get a team to come for a one game series. Second of all, the mid-majors worth a damn aren’t exactly willing to travel to your house for a one game shot. And third of all, everybody wants to get as many wins as possible. This is why Florida is a 63 point favorite versus Charleston Southern. This is why Appalachian State embarrassed Michigan. This is why the Wisconsin Badgers should have lost to Cal Poly-SLO. Because somebody’s got to step up for the adamantine stances of the Athletic directors. |

| Gerald Jones High Ankle Sprain: Harbinger of Doom? Posted: 24 Aug 2009 10:33 AM PDT Gerald Jones High Ankle Sprain: Harbinger of Doom? The big news out of Knoxville this weekend was the loss of Wide Receiver Gerald Jones for a span of 4 to 6 weeks due to a high ankle sprain. Jones was the lone bright spot in terms of the dystopian nightmare that was Dave Clausen’s offense last season, and in terms of the kiddie corps, he was the key to avoid forcing them to get real experience before forcing them into the fire after the injuries hit Austin Jones and Denarius Moore. But for the all-important game at Florida, it looks as if the would be sensational Freshman Nu’Keese Richardson and Marsalis Teague are going to have to lead the team against Florida. |
