Georgia vs Oklahoma State, 2009 Prediction Preview

Georgia vs Oklahoma State, 2009 Prediction Preview
By Josh Q. Public at joshqpublic.com

Last season, Georgia began as the No. 1 ranked team in the country. Last season Georgia was led by Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno. This season ain’t last season.

While the Dawgs do have an experienced offensive line which returns eight players, they lack talent at the skill positions. They lack talent at the big kill positions. The dollar bill positions. Oklahoma State ain’t lacking nothing there mon frere.

Yes the Bulldogs have AJ Green, but you know what the man says? The man says peace through superior firepower. Oklahoma State has the firepower. Ride, ride, ride, ride. Ride ‘em Cowboys, down the field.
Fight, fight, fight, fight. Fight ‘em Cowboys, and never yield.
Zac Robinson ain’t yielding for no one.

Zac Robinson, the Cowboys quarterback is big. Zac Robinson, the Cowboys quarterback is strong. He is one of the nation’s most effective dual-threat quarterbacks. In two seasons as the Cowboys?
starter, he?s thrown for 5,888 yards, rushed for 1,409 more and accounted for 65 touchdowns. Yowza! As goes Zac Robinson, so go the Cowboys. Zac Robinson is going places. He’s going on to victory.

Robinson will have help. The Oklahoma State running game was ranked eighth nationally in 2008, averaging 245.5 yards per game, behind star tailback Kendall Hunter. Hunter racked up 1,555 yards and 16 scores on the ground last season. Hunter is back this year leading perhaps the
most balanced offensive attack that is tough to stop. A balanced offensive attack that should run roughshod all over Georgia. OSU by 5 1/2. Mark my words. Mark them I say!

Alabama vs Virginia Tech, Prediction Preview 2009

Posted: 02 Sep 2009 11:24 PM PDT

Alabama vs Virginia Tech, Prediction Preview 2009. For the second year in a row Alabama will be playing in the Chick Fil A College Kickoff matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 8pm ET on Sept. 5, 2009. This game promises to be quite the event. ESPN’s College GameDay will be on hand for the game in Atlanta. Not only will there be plenty of excitement, but this game looks to be quite the matchup.

Not that it means much, but the preseason coaches’ poll has Alabama ranked at No.5 with Virginia Tech following closely at No. 7. Looking at the teams on paper Alabama has the edge, but that doesn’t always mean anything. Tech has experience to their advantage. Tech’s QB Tyrod Taylor has much more playing experience than Alabama’s Greg McElroy, while many say that McElroy’s skills surpass Taylor’s. I think the offensive line will be a major factor in this game. It is yet to be seen how Alabama’s o-line performs with only two returning starters. The offensive line’s performance can sometimes negate a great QB.

Personally I feel that Alabama does have the edge because of their defense and the supporting offensive players. They have a great stable of running backs and wide receivers. There is a status issue with Mark Ingram and Julio Jones, but if that is resolved Alabama should be loaded. My pick to win will be Alabama, but we all know that anything can happen. I say about 17-10 for Bama.

Kentucky vs Miami of Ohio, 2009 Prediction Preview

Kentucky vs Miami of Ohio, 2009 Prediction Preview.
By Chris Richardson at IntentionalFoul.com

Unfortunately for those of us that love facial hair, Mike Hartline has removed his award-winning mustache — that being said, if Hartline can improve his passing, Kentucky fans won't miss his foray into 70s porno movie style. Even though Kentucky's offense fell dramatically last season after the departures of Andre Woodson, Keenan Burton, Stevie Johnson, Rafael Little and Jacob Tamme, the Wildcats still managed to produce a winning season, which included their third-straight bowl win, a first for the Kentucky football program.

This season, vast improvement of the offense is expected, nay, demanded by the coaching staff and if the preseason practices are any indication, they might just be getting their wish.
Fortunately for the Wildcats, their season opens against the Miami of Ohio RedHawks (which will be played at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio), one of the lower-ranked defensive teams during the 2008 season (88 out of 119). Provided the RedHawks haven't done a complete about-face personnel-wise, this game should give the Wildcats an opportunity to see if their offense has indeed improved as much as the preseason buzz would have one believe.

Kentucky's offense vs. Miami's defense
Kentucky wins this match up by a larger margin than you'd initially believe, especially after last season. The problem for the RedHawks is they have no one who can consistently cover receivers Randall Cobb and JUCO transfer Chris Matthews (who has been turning heads in a major way during practice). If the Cats can protect Hartline — considering Miami's defensive woes, this shouldn't be a problem — they should be able to get just about anything they want out of the passing game, especially when they go three-and-four wide, adding speedsters Kyrus Lanxter and Gene McCaskill, who is coming off an impressive bowl game, to the package.

Of course, Kentucky isn't all about the passing threats either. Joining Hartline in the backfield are speedy running backs Alfonso Smith and Derrick Locke, along with their short-yardage pounder running back, Moncell Allen. Locke, who is coming off an ugly knee injury, and Smith are the home run hitters, and are scoring threats anytime they touch the ball. Add to that an awfully productive and hard-hitting blocker in fullback John Conner; it could be a long day for the RedHawks' defensive units.

Kentucky's defense vs. Miami's offense
Again, this has the makings of an "no contest" type of scenario. While Miami's defense wasn't that great last season, their offense was actually worse (ranked 89th). Meanwhile, Kentucky's defense was ranked 40th, although, they did lose a great deal on their defensive line. The strength of the 2009 Kentucky defense lies in its linebackers and defensive secondary. Expect to hear the names Micah Johnson and Trevard Lindley a great deal during the season. While Johnson might Kentucky's best linebacker in years — no offense, Wesley Woodyard — there are reports he's nursing a sore ankle and may not play against Miami. No matter. That will simply give sophomore Danny Trevathan a chance to show how good he can be. As for Lindley, well, some say he's the best cornerback in the SEC. That, especially when it's being said about a player who plays for Kentucky, should tell you all you need to know. While Miami might test Lindley's ability, they may not like the results.

Other players to watch out for on Kentucky are safety Winston Guy, linebacker Sam Maxwell and defensive tackle Ricky Lumpkin. While the RedHawks do have some competent offensive pieces, like quarterback Daniel Raudabaugh and receiver Chris Givens, it won't be enough to do a lot of damage against Kentucky's steady defense.

Prediction
All Kentucky, all the time — 45-14. After that, however, the Wildcats have a two week layoff until their September 19th game against rival Louisville.

Ole Miss vs Memphis, 2009 Prediction Preview

Posted: 02 Sep 2009 09:46 PM PDT

Ole Miss vs Memphis, 2009 Prediction Preview. Ole Miss and Memphis will mercifully put down their long standing home and home series in a small but dignified ceremony in amidst streams of random gunfire at the Liberty Bowl on Sunday. However, this final installment has all the makings of a mercy killing Ole Miss, who is rivaling John and Kate for most magazine covers in a 4 month span, brings a stout defensive front to face a Tiger squad who has had issues and injury on the o-line all preseason. Ole Miss also boasts Heisman hopeful Jevan Snead at quarterback and enough speed at wideout and in the backfield to make for a long evening for Tiger fans in their now handi-friendly stadium.

Ole Miss wins in a walk, and Memphis fans regret buying inappropriate t-shirts. Ole Miss 54 Memphis 20

Florida vs Charleston Southern, 2009 Prediction Preview

Posted: 02 Sep 2009 05:35 PM PDT

Florida vs Charleston Southern, 2009 Prediction Preview. With the preseason starting in four days, colleges across the country are getting excited to see their teams play for the first time. Unfortunately, not all of them will be satisfied once the final play is over; some will lose and defeat for some is more assured than it is for others. This brings me to this Saturday's game between the Charleston Southern Buccaneers and the Florida Gators.

Having only really paid attention to SEC football I took the time to look up any stats I could find for the Buccaneers and what I found does not look good for them. Comparing the stats on both teams listed on usatoday.com, the Buccaneers' were all lower than the Gators' with the Buccaneers' total completed passes being 203 while the Gators' total was 299. The total number of passes that resulted in touchdowns for the Buccaneers counts up to 26 with the Gators at 31.

As for scoring, the Gators' points per quarter are all nearly double or triple that of the Buccaneers and comparing the rest of the stats I found are equally dismal for the Big South opponents. A brief skim through sites such as The Wiz of Odds shows that most people agree that the Gators are going to crush them with a score of at least 65. I was somewhat worried that I wouldn't be able to catch the game before work in the afternoon, but if the game shapes up anything like it is looking to, I can probably leave early for work (I'll probably have to if I'm going to get through the UT strip and get there on time!) and not have to worry about the end result. That being said, I'm very excited about seeing the Gators play again! Go Gators!
