| Mississippi State vs Vanderbilt, Prediction Pick, 2009 Posted: 16 Sep 2009 05:11 PM PDT Mississippi State vs Vanderbilt, Prediction Pick, 2009 Two over-achievers from last season hook up for a meeting this Saturday. Both teams enter the contest with identical 1-1 records with each team losing a conference game already. Last season, MSU beat Vandy when the Commodores were ranked 13th and undefeated at 5-0. The revenge factor will be played out this weekend.
Realistically, this may be Mississippi State’s best chance at winning an SEC game all season, and they are still listed as 9-point underdogs. I think Vanderbilt brings too much defense and just enough offense to escape the upset at home. I’m saying Vanderbilt wins this one 28-20. |
| Ole Miss vs Southeastern Louisiana, Pick Prediction, 2009 Posted: 16 Sep 2009 05:00 PM PDT Ole Miss vs Southeastern Louisiana, Pick Prediction, 2009 Writing any sort of preview on this game is a waste of my time and yours…its a wash, a glorified scrimmage, a sheep thrown to the slaughter all for the market price of around $450,000. Let’s address All of this over-hype has left some Rebel fans fearing the worst. History and timidity have them expecting a fall from the lofty pedestal and the requisite “over rated” chants from the rest of college football”. But I say soak it up Ole Miss. Breathe in that rarefied air. Dip your toes in the deep end of the pool for once and enjoy. All of your tough games are at home (but some major trap games (this kid is not even 3, and knows all of his rebs) |
| Posted: 16 Sep 2009 04:57 PM PDT I guess I am an idiot savant at this for this season. In terms of guessing margin of victory? I’ve only really whiffed on one non-cupcake game. 12-3 overall. I mean, if it wasn’t for Jonathan Crompton, my life would be perfect. But these Cupcakes are delicious. I bounce these picks three yards behind the receiver for you. Starting…now! Louisville @ -10 Kentucky The Cardinals? They’re kind of bad at football. In fact, they sleepwalked through a home game versus the expected cellar dweller of the Missouri Valley conference. It seems like a strange and a wacky thing to do. But you know what? Kentucky’s confident, Louisville’s shaky and has bigger road games to come. I will take the Wildcats. North Texas +38 @ Alabama The line is just too big. North Texas is going to get a Touchdown. I mean, I guess Vegas doesn’t know that Alabama always stops around 40 points yet. But hey. That’s okay. It’ll make me look good. Tennessee +29 @ Florida I’m going to be contrarian. Obviously, nobody thinks Tennessee is going to win. But you know what? This is the sort of thing that’s made for a closer game than indicated. It’s us against the world. It’s the quarterback nobody wanted against the single greatest entity in college sports with a coach who took an ego hit. This game will be close going into the 4th quarter. And the Vols will cover comfortably. Louisiana-Lafayette @ -26 LSU The Cajun Rage has a problem. It’s a night game in Death Valley and nobody’s given this team credit for showing up yet. It was a good win last week, but this week they fall back to Earth. Florida Atlantic +21 @ South Carolina Two words. Trap game. The Gamecocks get Ole Miss and a short week coming up. Two more words. Inconsistent offense. I have my weakest endorsement coming to this end result. But if one of these things is not like the other? You can’t trust the anomaly. Take the points. Mississippi State +8.5 @ Vanderbilt Vanderbilt is getting absolutely racked with injuries. Mississippi State actually has some semblance of an offense to their name. But Jared Hawkins is probable. So, while I will tell you that this will be a cover. The only upset here is that both teams should get into the 20’s. Georgia @ +2 Arkansas This has all the makings of something fun. Arkansas actually has a legitimate passing game. But the expectation remains that they can’t stop anybody. But Arkansas knows how to take care of the ball. And that’s why they will win. West Virginia @ -5 Auburn Malzahn Mania has swept Auburn. And I have to admit I’m hooked. I know there’s an institutional memory of the spread and shred for the Fighting Couch Burners? But Auburn’s going to put up a touchdown’s more worth of points. And you would have to figure that even if Jevan Snead decides to sleep walk through the game Last Week: 4-2 |
| Florida vs Tennessee, Prediction Pick, 2009 Posted: 16 Sep 2009 04:01 PM PDT Florida vs Tennessee, Prediction Pick, 2009. You could also call this game Lane Kiffin vs Urban Meyer. Lane Kiffin has burst onto the SEC football landscape with a bunch trash talk, West coast style of doing things, accusations, and a top 15 recruiting class. Urban Meyer and the Florida Gators just keep on winning, but they have taken notice of the new mouth of the South. How could they not notice.
From the moment that Kiffin stepped into the coaching role for the Vols, he has talked about how sweet it will be when they beat Florida this week. It seems like that his number one role is to beat Florida this week, or at least to get everyone focused on it. It even caused a Florida player to say that if he saw Kiffin on the street that he would not say anything, because he would have nothing to say to that Bozo. But how will all the trash talk work into the actual game? The game is played on the field and not in the papers or on the message boards. Tennessee talke the talk, and even walked the walk in their first game. Crompton had 5 TD passes. Against UCLA they crashed back to Earth and now Crompton has 5 TD passes and 5 Interceptions. Florida just keeps on winning and winning by a lot. I pick Florida to win and to win big. Tennessee will most likely grow from these last 2 games, and I still have them going bowling. This loss is inevitable. Florida is better at every aspect of the game, and Crompton can not be expected to get better and overcome all the other factors in just 1 week. I would say that Florida by 30 would be a low prediction. Florida’s second team will be in in the 3rd, and will still move the ball with authority. -What do you think will happen? Jay is writing an SEC Football murder mystery novel, Called Run & Shoot. He is posting the chapters every Monday. He is only on Chapter 2, so go there and catch up and subscribe for the rest of the season. I can not due it justice with trying to capture it with a simple synopsis. I will simply tell you that the head coaches name is “Coach Rip Thackston”. Do you even need another reason? |

Mississippi State was disappointing on defense against Auburn last week. I’m not sure if Coach Mullen understands that he cannot run a spread offense without big-play athletes yet, but that is exactly what was attempted against Auburn. Yeah, it worked great against Jackson State, but once you get into a tough SEC schedule, it isn’t going to fly. Rotating quarterbacks isn’t such a bright move either.
