There are always driving narratives in the SEC. Last year you had the struggles of Tim Tebow as he got the team to 13-1 and a Sugar Bowl championship. As well as Kiffin. But the less said about that meme the better. This year? Week 1 holds multiple interesting memes. I will break down the Top 5. 1) Can Ole Miss rise again? It’s not entirely impossible. They did rate as somewhere between barely bowl eligible and decent. But after the performance where you let the Jacksonville State Gamecocks get back into the game after being three touchdowns down? The Right Reverend Houston Nutt cannot save his job. Not without winning the SEC West. 2) As for Florida? It took a ridiculous call on 4th and long to make the final score of the game against Miami of Ohio look presentable. Right now, the driving narrative of the Gators is that this is a team in trouble. Considering the schedule, they may not be had before they play the Crimson Tide. But until further notice? The Gators are in deep trouble. 3) Cameron Newton? Better than advertised. Vince Young’s legs with Daunte Culpepper’s arm. The problem with that scouting report is that Daunte Culpepper had strong legs to run with back in the day. But when you consider the multiple rushing options that Auburn has? Auburn is going to be a tough out for anybody. 4) LSU on the other hand? They let an undermanned team get back into the game by attacking their supposed strength. North Carolina is a terrible passing team. T.J. Yates has a propensity to throw picks. LSU should have won by three scores. Not give two attempts to the Heels to complete the rally. 5) We’ll find out who exactly is likely going to finish in second place in the SEC East this week. Georgia should have A.J. Green ready for this game, and South Carolina looked tremendous last week. In terms of games? This is the sort of game Mark Richt usually wins. (The just enough so that Paul Finebaum is the only newsish source to call for his ouster.) Teams I didn’t mention previously in a word (or two). |
Extended Version: The Ole Miss Admiral Ackbars ( ESPN Video ) Posted: 07 Sep 2010 08:35 PM PDT
I first posted the Ackbar Ole Miss Commercial on NESW sports, but this is the extended version. You get to see more of the story, and consequently, more Ole Miss nerds. |
