SEC Against The Spread Week 5.

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 04:01 PM PDT

UConn is on upset alert. BOOM.

SEC Against The Spread Week 5.

Gonna hammer this out quickly with minimal to no comment. I have Vanderbilt over UConn and I’m gonna take it with the win. I have Alabama doing the whole win but not cover thing against Florida.

Otherwise?

LSU is getting 16.5 points against Tennessee. Rocky Top gets another gritty performance in a losing effort to cover. Kentucky’s getting 3 at Ole Miss. I’ll take the home favorite.  Georgia gets healthy with A.J. Green back giving 5 to a terrible Colorado. And I’ll take Louisiana Monroe +35 against Auburn.

Everyone else has the week off or is playing an FCS school.

Last Week: 3-4
Overall: 19-10 (Still batting well.)

Florida at Alabama; Predicition Pick 2010

Tebow cried for an in-season conference loss. Again!

Florida at Alabama; Predicition Pick 2010

So here we are, the game of the decade of the year of the week. The two coaches of the previous decade. The two teams of the previous decade. And here we are, actually getting a game like this in the regular season.

Okay, now that my hyperbole hat’s been taken off, the fact of the matter is that this game leans toward Alabama above and beyond the mere fact that they’re playing this in Tuscaloosa. Alabama had to travel to Fayetteville at took Arkansas’s best shot, got up off of the mat, and won.

Florida, on the other hand, finally destroyed a team they were supposed to. But at what cost? Trey Burton ran for five touchdowns and shown himself to be the sort of a running threat of a Tebowish caliber between the tackles with an arm less messed up than the Tebow. But if Steve Addazio kept him in the holster? Nick Saban would not have to game plan for him.

And this would be a whole different story.

As it is? Florida is going to need the best performance from the back four it can get. Because they are likely going to try to make Greg McElroy beat them again. It didn’t work so well last year. And they had Joe Haden playing at being a shutdown corner. I can see McElroy burning them for two scores.

But that being said? John Brantley is going to have time to throw. Mallett had most of his game in the first half, but he had a lot of time to throw. The Gators have receivers of a similar skill and vintage. And in general? Florida has a faster team than Alabama. They’re not going to get blown out here. Especially if they get Deonte Thompson untracked.

Two schools of thought on how this game goes down. One, Addazio doesn’t let Brantley get vertical, McElroy opens things up for Ingram/Richardson, and Alabama bends but doesn’t break and wins by 16. Two, Florida lets it all hang out. Demps breaks another one, Will Hall gets a pick six, and Alabama’s still feeling a hangover from their battle last week and the Gators win by 3.

Personally, I think Florida does a little better than the first school. I think they get down early, but with 1:45 to go, they score a touchdown, miss the two and lose the onside kick. Alabama 27, Florida 22.
