Tennessee goes full on Zork!

It's the best story ever.

Tennessee goes full on Zork!

Yeah, I’ll admit it. I’m not exactly want to give something a shout out. I only assume one or two people are going to click on it. But when I read this post from Rocky Top Talk, I decided that if two more people read this, then I have done a service.

Please do enjoy, won’t you?

SEC Week 7 Prediction Picks (including Florida vs. Mississippi State)

SEC Week 7 Prediction Picks (including Florida vs. Mississippi State)

So last week wasn’t nearly the easy money that one would consider. 4-3 for the week. And Georgia won and covered with the ridiculous spreads that Phil Steele is going with. So apologies for losing your pretend houses. Sorry.

This week? Arkansas covers in a classic, LSU will inexplicably let McNeese State hang around entirely too long, and Tennessee gets an extra week to think about the case of Suzanne Glen and their well-deserved beatdown by Georgia.

Otherwise…

Alabama -21 vs. Ole Miss

As South Carolina has shown, a good pass rush can give the Crismon Tide trouble. But Alabama is in an angry mood, and Ole Miss really doesn’t have any sort of a pass rush. Alabama will take a big lead and cruise. A win and cover.

Mississippi State @ Florida -7

So guess what? The speedy guy who decided to stalk and threaten to kill an ex-girlfriend is back on the team! Urban Meyer’s 317th suspended athlete’s return to the team is comfort for the suddenly reeling Gators. Florida 27, Mississippi State 17.

South Carolina -5 @ Kentucky

Kentucky coming back to force Auburn to inexorably beat them on the final drive plus the hangover of beating Alabama equals gambles being in favor of Big Blue. But the history of Spurrier vs. Kentucky plus the fact that they lost in such a heartbreaking fashion means South Carolina wins and covers.

Georgia -14.5 vs. Vanderbilt

It’s amazing what a week can do. Going into last week, everybody thought the Bulldogs were going to be off the rails for now and for perpetuity. Vanderbilt has a swagger going after putting up 52 on a terrible team. But? This week will belong to the Bulldogs. The new UGA christens a three score win.

Last week: 4-3
Overall: 25-17

Arkansas vs. Auburn, Prediction Pick 2010

Arkansas vs. Auburn, Prediction Pick 2010

There’s been a paradigm shift in the SEC right now. The SEC East is South Carolina’s to lose. The SEC West’s leaders are a loose cannon with nothing left to lose and a coach who was so bad at Iowa State football that he’s still five games under .500 for his career. It’s a strange scenario.

And into the breach steps Bobby Petrino. Fresh off of a win against Texas A&M. They seek to confuse matters further with a win on the plains and the single greatest dual-threat quarterback of all time in one Cameron Newton. Auburn comes in as a four point favorite. But will they win?

The reason why you have to like Arkansas is twofold. One fold is obvious, one fold not as much. Auburn’s currently 91st in pass defense. Arkansas is currently 3rd in pass offense. Expecting Arkansas to throw the football for a multiple hundreds of yards through the air is not a stretch.

But for a defense that was the bete noire of Hoo Pig Sooey nation last season? They’ve actually been kind of good this year. Granted, the numbers still have a modicum of inflation from playing Tennessee Tech and Louisiana-Monroe, but Arkansas’s defense is currently 19th in yardage allowed and 13th in points allowed. They’ve been stopping some people.

Though, Auburn is something else entirely. How they come correct is by the running game. It’s not just Cameron Newton either. Mario Fannin, Michael Dyer, and Ontario McCalebb all get carries and all have to be game planned for. And with a good offensive line? They’re going to stand toe to toe with the Razorbacks.

So what happens? The standard issue Auburn game this year. There will be a point where Arkansas will score 17-21 unanswered points, and they’ll take a lead. But? They will not hold the lead. Auburn will be patient, and they will make this a game again. It will be a classic shootout.

Verne Lundquist will be apoplectic on several occasions on game day. But the Plainsmen will end up getting the ball last on this day. And it will give them a win. But they will not cover. Auburn 28, Arkansas 27.
