Drug talk trending social sites Posted: 12 Aug 2011 11:36 PM PDT In the last 48 hours, I’ve heard more news/talk/buss about drugs than I have ever heard in my whole entire time on earth. Just when I thought the sport was going forwards it’s gone backwards again. Social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter have been swamped with accusations to who may or may not be using banned substances. This comes after, Jamaican sprinter Steve Mullings was informed on Wednesday he had tested positive for performance enhancing drugs at the Jamaican Trials. I’ve received a lot of mentions on Twitter about Mullings testing positive. One of my followers tweeted me: “Is anybody in the game clean?” I replied back saying “That’s the same question I’ve been asking myself for the last 48 hours.” Alot of questions have arisen about Mullings training partner, Tyson Gay, who ended his season at the US Championships do to a groin injury. Mullings and Gay train together in Clermont, Florida under Lance Brauman. Many track fans are speculating that Tyson is using drugs as well, because of his association with Mullings. I found this to be nonsense. I’m leave it at that. With the world championships around the corner, the IAAF issued a statement saying that all competing athletes will be blood tested in Daegu. I saw on my timeline where someone tweeted: “Should blood testing athletes be required at all major track & field events?” I replied back with… “Yes!” I’m in favor of blood testing at all major events in efforts to keep the cheats out of the sport. Universal Sports analyst Ato Boldon seems to agree with me. Boldon mentioned the following on his Twitter account: “IAAF says blood tests for EVERYONE in Daegu. Glad to hear it. Enough is enough.” American hurdler David Oliver replied to Boldon’s tweet with…”Good, wonder how many pull-outs there will be.” Oliver later tweets “Just finished a doping control at the house, I see they will blood test every athlete at Worlds, wish they didn’t release that info so soon” His last tweet reads: “Look at athletes scatter like roaches when the lights come on”. With all the rumors and speculation surrounding drugs, there hasn’t been much talk about the upcoming World Championships in two weeks. It makes me wonder who will be focused on the task at hand, which is to medal. Perhaps there will be a couple of pull-outs like D.O. had mentioned in his tweet. We shall see! No related posts. |
