Posted: 13 Dec 2011 09:47 AM PST Ronnie O'Sullivan is regarded as one of the greatest snooker stars of all time but reckons he has under-achieved, so his rivals should take notice as 'The Rocket' wants to win more Masters and World Championship titles. The 36-year-old is known for his pacey play around the table and his natural talent is lauded by some of the biggest names in the sport's history. However where there has been success, there has also been controversy surrounding O'Sullivan and in recent season he has slipped down the world rankings. People looking at snooker bets should bear this in mind. O'Sullivan showed he is still a class act by thrashing Ding Junhui to win the 2011 Premier League title, with that result making it 10 Premier League title and seven wins in eight years for 'The Rocket'. Ask any snooker fan and they will speak about O'Sullivan's thrilling 147 breaks and even the times he plays left-handed – which can wind opponents up – as his talent has electrified audiences around the globe since turning professional. O'Sullivan is second on the all-time career prize money list but reckons he is going to be "the underdog" when the Masters comes round at Alexandra Palace in January and also the World Snooker Championships in April. Anyone following the snooker betting should remember this. Despite all his success, he is only ranked 11th in the world and claims he should have experienced more title success throughout his career. "I've won four UK titles, four Masters and three Worlds, which is a good haul, but in my mind I have under-achieved," said O'Sullivan. "I should have won two more World titles, two more Masters and maybe another UK. I've been in nine Masters finals and I should have converted another couple of those." The reigning World Snooker Champion John Higgins recently said O'Sullivan remains a big threat to all the competitors in the biggest tournaments, despite the fact he has struggled to match the heights of earlier in his career in recent years. |
Posted: 13 Dec 2011 08:36 AM PST Memphis Grizzlies have signed the highly-rated 20-year-old point guard Josh Selby on a multi-year contract. Selby was selected 49th overall by the Grizzlies in the 2011 NBA Draft after averaging 7.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 26 games for the Kansas Jayhawks. The Baltimore-born youngster joins fellow former Jayhawks, Darrell Arthur and Xavier Henry on the Grizzlies roster and people who bet on basketball should bear in mind. Memphis have also signed free agent Jeremy Pargo who spent last season with Euroleague side Maccabi Tel-Aviv. The 25-year-old helped Hapoel Gilboa Galil Elyon win the 2010 Israeli Basketball Super League Championship before joining Maccabi Tel-Aviv. Pargo also played for the Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, Charlotte Bobcats and Minnesota Timberwolves earlier in his career. In addition, the Grizzlies have snapped up Josh Davis, Mikki Moore, Jared Reiner, Walter Sharpe and Brian Skinner in readiness for the new season. The five players have 31 years of NBA experience between them as Memphis attempt to improve on last season's run to the play-offs. Despite finishing only fourth in the Southwest Division standings after winning 46 of their 82 regular season matches, they sneaked into the play-offs and surprisingly beat much-fancied San Antonio Spurs 4-2 before being beaten by 4-3 by Oklahoma City Thunder. Point guard Mike Conley is looking forward to another successful season, saying: "It's obvious that as a team, we have a lot of optimism. We feel like we have a team to make a run at a championship."That's always been our goal each year. We've got the team. We've got Rudy (Gay) back and he's ready to go, he says he's 100 per cent."Gay missed the closing weeks of last season and the play-offs after suffering a shoulder injury in February. |
Soderling to miss Australian Open Posted: 13 Dec 2011 05:04 AM PST Robin Soderling has confirmed that he will miss the opening Grand Slam of 2012 in the Australian Open at Melbourne Park. The Swede has been out of action with the virus infectious mononucle since September and is not going to be fit in time to take up a spot in the first major of next year which gets underway on January 16. The latest Australian Open betting has been updated to reflect this. Soderling last match was when winning the Swedish Cup in his home country, beating David Ferrer in the final in Bastad. The 27-year old had to pull out of the US Open at the last minute with the virus and did not recover in time to make the Shanghai Masters. The world number 13 is hoping to be back in action in February but has to decide where his comeback will be. The two-time French Open finalist is hoping to step up his training in January to try and reach match fitness before a return to the court. "I am feeling better with each day but it will still take some time before I can start practicing in full speed," Soderling said on his twitter account. Soderling did have his best run of his career at the Australian Open last year in which he reached the fourth round in the draw before losing to Alexandr Dolgopolov. The Swede then went on a rich vein of form by winning back-to-back titles in Rotterdam and Marseille His last Grand Slam appearance was at Wimbledon where he was eliminated in the third round by Australian Bernard Tomic where he was struggling with stomach pains during the game. |
