Low named as potential Chelsea target

With the hunt on yet again for new Chelsea manager a plethora of names have been linked with what looks like an increasingly impossible job.
There is plenty to draw a manager to the top job at Stamford Bridge, a wealthy owner promising funds and a high wage, plenty of experienced players, a decent stadium in a nice area of London, but there are plenty of caveats attached to it.
Namely that you have to win straight away, deal with a dressing room that has a direct line to the chairman if they are not happy and speaking of the owner, he will often dictate to you who he wants to sign and what style of play he wants.
It is little wonder then that the club were labelled a disgrace by LMA chief executive Richard Bevan in the wake of Villas-Boas' sacking, the seventh manager in Abramovich's nine years at the club.
Rafa Benitez, Jose Mourinho, David Moyes and Brendan Rodgers have all been linked with the top job, with the 'special one' currently the favourite in the premier league betting to replace his countryman Villas-Boas.
The La Liga odds all suggest that Mourinho will quit Real Madrid this season, regardless of whether they go on and clinch the title. In fact that may push him further towards the door, as he could leave with his held high, just as he did with Porto and Inter Milan.
However, the latest name to be thrown into the hat is Germany coach Joachim Low.
Low has refused to comment on speculation linking him with the Chelsea job. A Swiss newspaper claimed Low had met with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich in a Geneva hotel to discuss the possibility of replacing Andre Villas-Boas, who was sacked on Sunday.
"The European Championships start in three months and everyone knows my goal. I see no reason for me to comment on media speculation," Low told German newspaper Bild.
Low would certainly fit the bill at Chelsea, a glamorous foreign manager with an expensive price tag.

But if a World Cup winner like Phil Scolari or multiple Champions League winner like Carlo Ancelotti fail to impress Abramovich for a significant amount time, what chance does Low have?
