Posted: 22 Mar 2012 06:15 AM PDT Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish believes the prospect of a new contract for star front man Luis Suarez will strike fear into the rest of the Premier League. The controversial striker has been linked with a summer move away from Anfield, with Paris Saint Germain possible suitors. However, Suarez, who joined Liverpool from Ajax for £22.8m in January 2011, played down talk of an exit and said he 'would like to stay' and fans of www.betvictor.com will be keeping an eye on his contract situation. The World Cup star signed a deal which would take him up until the summer of 2016 when he came to England last year and is expected to agree an extension at the end of the season. Dalglish said: "It's certainly encouraging for us, although it might be bad news for the other Premier League teams. "Luis has always said he is happy here, so it's great for everyone who supports us. I don't think he has been anything other than a threat to the opposition." Suarez has scored 11 goals during his first full season on Merseyside but has not always been in the headlines for the right reasons. The Uruguayan was hit with an eight-game ban and a £40,000 fine after he was found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra in November. The following month, Suarez was charged by the Football Association after aiming an abusive hand gesture at Fulham fans. Ahead of Wednesday night's game at Queens Park Rangers, Dalglish was keen to focus on the positives and people placing a Victor Chandler bet will be wondering if he can make a contribution. "Luis has made a contribution every time he has stepped out on to the pitch. He scores goals, creates goals and it's great news that he is happy," added the Liverpool boss. Liverpool travel to west London still harbouring hopes of a Champions League place. Suarez and Liverpool will be hoping for a much improved Premier League showing next season. |
Posted: 22 Mar 2012 06:09 AM PDT Joey Barton has once again taken to his favourite social medium – Twitter – to criticise the QPR supporters who booed him during Wednesday's game with Liverpool. The controversial midfielder was substituted midway through the second half of the contest with Liverpool at Loftus Road. Barton had not had the best of games and there were several ironic cheers from the crowd who watch football live at Loftus Road when his name was announced. Those cheers then developed into boos as he approached the subs bench. The R's were 2-0 down at that stage, but launched and unlikely comeback to snatch the game 3-2 – with the man who came on for Barton, Jamie Mackie, grabbing the winner in stoppage time. It lifted them out of the bottom three but with a tricky fixture list to come they remain favourites to go down in the relegation betting . After the game Barton – never afraid to voice his opinion – went online to express his frustration at his poor display while also voicing his displeasure at the booing supporters. "I was awful tonight," Barton said via Twitter. "Worst I've ever played in my career. But we WON...and that's the most important thing. Onwards and upwards. "Disappointed with fans booing, were [sic] meant to be in it together. They won't break me, guaranteed. I've been through much worse. Form is temporary, class is permanent." It is that self-confidence – or arrogance – that is both Barton's greatest strength and weakness. Self-belief and confidence is key for a players progression but Barton's feeling of superiority – particularly over those who don't play professional football – is one of the main reasons why he is such a controversial figure. It is unlikely to be the last time he makes his voice heard. |
