Penguins Experience |
| Entry 'The Top Pittsburgh Penguins Prospects' (ID:149661) added by user 'PenguinsExperience' Posted: 18 Aug 2009 06:42 AM PDT Blog: Penguins Experience I have to say, for the first time in a while the Pittsburgh Penguins prospect pool impresses me. After several drafts where the Penguins key picks went straight to the NHL (Fleury, Crosby, Staal, Malkin, etc.) the Penguins are finally rebuilding their depth. This is incredibly important, especially with the salary cap expected to fall. It's much easier and cheaper to pull from your existing prospect pool than it is to sign high-priced free agents. I have to say, I'm most excited about Eric Tangradi and Luca Caputi. Caputi played pretty well in his brief call-up with the Pens last year and Tangradi looks to be a definite high level power forward. Simon Despres, the Penguins number one pick in the 2009 draft, seems impressive as well. He won't make the NHL for at least a year or two, but it's something to look forward to. With most of last year's team re-signing, it looks doubtful that any of these prospects could crack the line-up full time next season. But the 2010-2011 season will likely see several openings. Being able to give these young players some additional seasoning in the AHL before putting into the big leagues is a great situation to be in. We're less than a month from preseason folks! Lets Go Pens.
